I want you all to post your thoughts on making and downloading photoshop brushes.

I make my own brushes either from scratch or from a stock image.

If you ask me, downloading brushes and using them is your work totally kills the overall piece, no matter how cool and good it looks. It's practically like taking someone elses work, putting it in your own work and saying that you made it all.

i download brushes and sometimes make my own from images... but it dont think its like taking someone else work because your not gonna make the same exact background as the maker of the brushes. It can look totally diffirent.

But you're still using something that someone else made and taking credit for it, no matter how or where you use it.

It is taking someone elses work. People make those brushes and then u use it. it is their brushes so the sig isn't entirely urs.

Ditto Erik.

When people looks at tuts, they practically take the brush from the person who made the tut.
IMO, when brushes are used, its nothing great, we've all seen it before. I used to overwhore with my own brushe but I'm out of that.
I use them here and there for some grunge designs but i don't over do it.

I never downloaded brushes really. I always made my own. Usually I would just cut a pen in half and fuck around with the ink, let it dry, scan it and use it.

Now I just use the default photoshop brushes and manipulate whatever comes out of them with smudging or displacing.

That's a lie and you know it.

Anyway.

I think this is kind of a cheap technique, but when I have a brush that looks halfway decent, I start with an entirely black canvas and brush over the black with the brush I just made, except have it's color set to white. I brush around and over it so that what's left ot the black can be used as a new brush.

It helps for making a set that seems to go along with the same look and flow, yet have a totally different image. :X
