Most of the stuff that was on there is/will be on here. While it was a good site and all, ThyElite has the potential to be as great, and greater.

No, they sued him for something called Copyright Infringement. Time for a lesson on copyright infringement from Uncle Dan.

Copyright Infringement involves engaging in one of the practices that are exclusively reserved for a copyright owner or a violation of the rights secured by a copyright, without a license to do so.

The term Coke™ is trademarked. Also trademarked is Coke Studios™; coincidentally, V-Ego™ is also trademarked. Using these names or items in a fashion that is not per the owners request can result in a lawsuit; i.e. registering a domain with one of those terms.

Upon discovery of said infringement, Coca-Cola™ can choose one of two options. Provide proper licenses to allow the user continued use of said trademark, or sue the shit out of 'em. In this case, they chose the latter.

PlatinumAudio 07-19-2006 02:57 AM

And whats wrong with being a nerd? I'd rather be clever than a total dumbfuck. And it was neccessary because it explained in a simple way for people who didn't understand.

Kingcoke 07-19-2006 02:58 AM

there is a difference between being a nerd and smart so :stfu:

PlatinumAudio 07-19-2006 03:12 AM

You have to be smart to be a nerd :x
Edit: I'm going to end it here because I really couldn't careless anymore and we're going of topic and I don't want to be banned.

CokeStudios.org is closed FOREVER!

Because you all seem so retardedly fixated on the problem, I am pinning this topic. The next person to make a CokeStudios.org topic is banned.

tennisluvr8 07-19-2006 08:49 PM

Well this answers like 20 million questions!

I don't see why we need a new topic for each one of them. This is the new CokeStudios.org thread. I'll be merging all the others with it. Post here about it.

DefectiveProduct 07-19-2006 08:59 PM

Hmm.

I wouldn't be suprised if Takeshi did get sued.

Naming your own website after a copyrighted term that you have no rights of isn't exactly a smart idea.

Teenager 07-19-2006 10:00 PM

I believe Tom really got sued. I am kind of surprised mycoke would take the time to sue anyone but the fact that his site is closed and he hasnt been on msn makes me wonder. If I was sued for $4,000 because I created a site with a copyrighted name, knowing its copyrighted. To top that my site had cheats & filters related to the copyrighted site name. My parent would probly get the internet cut off and throw my pc out the window. I wouldnt blame them because $4,000 is a lot of money to waste with school starting & gas prices.

Vis 07-19-2006 10:04 PM

1. MyCoke gives all users a 30 day notice to remove their content before taking any action.
2. Tom's parents probably saw this and freaked. They made him take his site down and grounded him from the computer.
3. Coke wouldn't do shit, even if they could.

Sifter 07-19-2006 10:05 PM

Yes, but has there been any clarification? Seriously, there hasn't. I'll do a google search... but I dunno. Maybe his computer broke or something, and he hasnt the time to fix it, and maybe he wasnt able to pay the fee for the site, and since his computer was broken, he wouldnt be on MSN. But even if that were the case, I doubt the site would say, "This forum is currently unavailable."
So I dunno if rumors should be going around about this, if there was no clarification that he was sued.
Coke also may have reported to Macromedia/Adobe about the Photoshop CS2 download.
Since coke uses shockwave, they problably had some type of affiliation. And since Shockwave is owned by Macromedia, now Adobe, they may have taken action. I'm not sure, but that may be the real reason. Even if it isnt, we have no clue as to what it really is yet.

Teenager 07-19-2006 10:12 PM

I dont know because I dont know what type of parents he have. My parents have very low knowledge of computer use. They can go to websites & check email but they dont even know what a "domain" is unless I explain its to them. They wouldnt know if my site was closed or open.

Then again if they knew a lot about computers they probly wouldnt freak out and make him close his site. I also dont believe they would ground him for some threat.

Prophet- 07-20-2006 12:52 PM

to go along with what vis said...

no where in the copyright does it say that cokestudios is a registered trademark of the Coca-Cola company....

realize... no CokeStudios... the name is not registered so he cant be sued...
